Viral warts are caused by the wart virus (HPV) and are most commonly found on the hands, feet, and face, though they can appear anywhere on the skin.
Seborrhoeic warts (often called "Seb K's") are typically associated with ageing skin. They can occasionally become itchy or inflamed, particularly if caught on clothing. These are not usually treated on the NHS, but private treatment is available.
There are two effective treatment options for warts:
Cryotherapy — liquid nitrogen freezing treatment, which is quick to administer in clinic and can be very effective for most warts.
Surgical removal — recommended for larger growths, performed under local anaesthetic in a clean clinical setting to effectively remove the lesion and reduce the chance of recurrence.
