Wart removal / Wart treatment

Have an unwanted wart on your skin?

There are two main types:

- Viral warts caused by the wart virus - these are most common on the hands, feet and face but can occur anywhere on the skin.

- Seborrhoeic warts (Seb k's) / senile warts - commonly seen on the skin with age. They can sometimes but itchy or become inflamed when caught. These usually can't be removed in NHS services, but can be removed privately.

Treatment options:

- Liquid Nitrogen treatment - this is a very cold spray known as cryotherapy or freezing treatment. This can be very effective for warts and is easy to administer in clinic.

- Surgical removal - this required a procedure in a clean room under local anaesthetic. Is is most suitable for larger warts and where the patient wants to ensure the treatment will be most effective in removing the lesion and stopping it coming back.
